Responsibilities
Reporting to the Associate Vice-President of Academic and Indigenous Programs (AVPAIP), the Indigenous Projects Officer will be responsible for:
- Planning and operating strategic projects that advance Indigenous, equity, diversity, and inclusion (IEDI);
- Providing exceptional project management to advance our actions and efforts to embed IEDI at Laurentian University;
- leading priority projects and taking on roles that are critical to the department’s success and growth.
- Providing oversight to specific projects assigned by the AVPAIP ensuring that project deliverables are completed as planned on time and on budget;
- Responsible for seeking and oversight of grant and research funding proposals and reporting to the AVPAIP;
- Project examples include supporting and accessing research grants, obtaining funding for Indigenous infrastructure, overseeing projects such as Indigenous Education Week and supporting special events throughout the year;
- Other duties as required by the AVPAIP.
Qualifications
- Undergraduate degree four (4) years in a relevant discipline;
- Minimum three (3) to five (5) years of relevant administrative or project management experience in the post-secondary sector or a related setting;
- Proof of Indigenous Identity ( status card and letter of affiliation with a First Nation, Metis or Inuit community);
- Excellent understanding of the post-secondary education sector and intersection with Indigenous( First Nations, Métis and Inuit) communities;
- Experience with grant writing and reporting;
- Experience advancing equity projects within a post-secondary environment or similar complex organization;
- Demonstrated knowledge of Indigenous, equity, diversity and inclusion (IEDI) principles, trends, research methods, statistical analysis and reporting;
- Extensive knowledge of IEDI community considerations and a strong commitment to anti-racism, equity, diversity, inclusion, belonging and justice;
- Demonstrated experience in a project management capacity, including experience with all aspects of process development, execution and completion;
- Expertise and ability to coordinate and support committees and working groups;
- Experience in coordinating and facilitating meetings, including project meetings with stakeholders to facilitate approval processes;
- Experienced working with administrative, research and sensitive data. Including experience to gather, synthesize, interpret, and review information;
- Experience in research, data collection and analysis, and report writing;
- In-depth knowledge of project management principles, methodologies, techniques, tools and best practices;
- Detailed knowledge of building project timelines with experience using Google platforms or other project management software and resources;
- Strong ability and commitment to remain current with emerging and prevailing trends and issues in Indigenous, equity, diversity and inclusion.
- Demonstrated proactive learning to stay informed of trends, and to anticipate and proactively respond to changes;
- Demonstrated ability to identify Indigenous gaps or areas for improvement and implement changes for maximum efficiency;
- Highly developed skills in oral and written communication, including effective presentation skills;
- Ability to adjust to changing priorities, problem solver orientation;
- Ability to build collaborative, long-term relationships internally and externally;
- Ability to interpret and apply a broad range of institutional policies and procedures;
- Ability to work under pressure and with deadline constraints while balancing competing priorities;
- Familiarity with social media platforms.
The official University hours of operation shall be from 9:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday, during, and including, the months from September to April, and from 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m Monday through Friday during and including May to August., amounting to thirty-three and three-quarter (33.75) hours per week.
